New Acting Romanian Minister of Culture Appointed

BUCHAREST: Mihnea Costoiu has been appointed the Acting Romanian Minister of Culture and National Heritage after the departure of Gigel Sorinel Ştirbu from the post. Ştirbu left the post together with other six ministers as their party, the National Liberal Party (PNL) has left the governing coalition USL (Social Liberal Union).

The alliance USL, founded in February 2011, consisted of the Social Democratic Party, the National Liberal Party, the Conservative Party and the National Union for the Progress of Romania.

Gigel Sorin Ştirbu was appointed minister of Culture and National Heritage mid-December 2013, replacing another PNL minister, Daniel Barbu. Until new assignments, all the acting ministers will be members of the Social Democratic Party. They are awaiting the President of Romania, Traian Băsescu, to sign the decree confirming their appointment.
