BUCHAREST: Radu Jude's ambitious historical drama Aferim! was selected for Berlinale's Competition (5-15 February 2015), two years after Peter Călin Netzer's Child's Pose (Parada Film), also produced by Ada Solomon, was awarded the Golden Bear. Aferim! is a Romanian/Bulgarian/Czech coproduction.

Set at the beginning of the 19th century, the story written by Florin Lăzărescu and Radu Jude follows a regional policeman and his teenage son tracking a runaway gypsy slave. The title, which translates as an ironic “Bravo!” in the Ottoman-Turkish language, suggests a questioning of the so-called objective historical truth, reflecting on the way values and habits are transferred from one generation to the next. The cast includes: Teodor Corban, Mihai Comănoiu, Cuzin Toma, Alexandru Dabija, Luminita Gheorghiu, Victor Rebengiuc, Alberto Dinache, Alexandru Bindea, Mihaela Sîrbu, Adina Cristescu, Serban Pavlu, Gabriel Spahiu, Dan Nicolaescu.

It is the most expensive project of the producer Ada Solomon so far. She produced it through Hi Film in coproduction with Bulgaria's Klas Film, Endorfilm from Czech Republic and Romania's Mulberry Development with the participation of Nu Boyana Film Studios, U-Films, Production XMG Media, Abis Studio, Division Camera. The film was also made in association with EZ Films (France) and HBO Romania, with the support of Eurimages, Romanian National Film Center, Bulgarian National Film Center and the Czech Film Fund.
