FNE at Connecting Cottbus: 1985

COTTBUS: Romania in 1985 was in the grips of the worst of Ceausescu’s excesses, and ordinary Romanians paid the price. Director Bogdan Muresanu takes this emotionally laden era as the title of his film, 1985, which was pitched at the recent Connecting Cottbus.

The film, a thriller drama with dark humor, focuses on a policeman torn between his family loyalties when his mother faces the destruction of her home in the wake of Romanian state planning gone wild, versus his official duties investigating protest manifestos.

The film, with a budget of 935,000 EUR, is produced by Irina Malcea of Adcelerate. The project has no funding in place and was at Cottbus seeking coproducers and feedback. The film is in the very early stages of development.

The film will be the director’s feature film debut. Shooting should begin in late 2017.
