BUCHAREST: Little England by Pantelis Voulgaris (Greece) won the Audience Award at the 20th European Film Festival organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute. The festival took place in six Romanian cities from 5 to 29 May 2016.

This is the first time the festival decided to also give an Audience Award in the short and medium length films category. The winner was Dumitru Grosei’s Echos / Ecouri (Republic of Moldavia).

The 20th edition broke several records including the greatest number of films (85 films from 29 countries), screened in the most numerous locations (13), and also the biggest number of additional events (13) such as workshops, conferences, music shows and photo exhibitions. In Bucharest the screenings in eight locations were attended by more than 5,200 people.

The selection of the films was coordinated by the Romanian Cultural Institute, together with the EU embassies and the local distributors Independența Film and Transilvania Film. Since 2014 the festival has been under the patronage of EUNIC Bucharest.

Aside from the most representative recent films from EU countries, this year’s festival sections included Shakespeare 400, Ten EFF Friends (films made by the previous ambassadors of the festival, who are famous Romanian directors), Lux Prize with the finalists of the Lux Prize 2015 (Mediterranea by Jonas Carpignano, Mustang by Deniz Gamze Ergüven and The Lesson/Urok by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov produced by Abraxas Film) and Escape in Europe, produced with the support of One World Romania Festival and the European Parliament Office in Romania.
