BUCHAREST: Romanian producer Oana Iancu is doing double duty at the 67th Berlinale as producer of Călin Peter Netzer’s Competition film Ana, mon amour (Parada Film) and as producer of Bogdan George Apetri’s The Deer, which was selected for the Co-production Market.
Iancu is producing through Fantascope Films, a company established by filmmaker Florin Șerban.
“The Deer / Căprioara is an action movie and a detective story. That makes it different from my other projects and I am happy that this valuable project has found me and will enable me to contribute to the diversification of Romanian cinema. I said that the project found me because Florin Șerban discovered the script written by Iulian Postelnicu and he initiated the project. I was carried away by the script and having Bogdan as director and Florin as producer made the package irresistible,” Iancu told FNE.
Iulian Postelnicu, who wrote the script, was a young actor in Radu Muntean’s acclaimed One Floor Below / Un etaj mai jos (Multimedia Est, 2015).
The Deer is currently in development with the shooting loosely set for next winter. The budget of approximately 1.1 m EUR is partially covered by a production grant from the Romanian Film Centre, so international coproducers are welcomed, especially from the Czech Republic, Belgium and Germany. Approximately 70% of the budget is already covered.
This is the second feature by Apetri, following Outbound / Periferic (Saga film, 2010). Apetri studied film in Bucharest and New York, where he is currently living.
