BUCHAREST: Otto the Barbarian by Ruxandra Ghițescu is the only CEE project among the 15 projects selected for Cinefondation’s Atelier in Cannes 2017. The event will take place from 19 to 25 May 2017.
Set in the outskirts of Bucharest, the story of Ghițescu's debut feature follows Otto, a 17-year-old punk with a huge Mohawk, as he becomes involved in the social services investigation following the death of his girlfriend, Laura. Alien Film is producing.
Otto the Barbarian / Otto barbarul was selected for Less is More – Development Workshop for Low Budget Feature Projects in Bucharest (May 2015), Baltic Event 2015, Berlinale Script Station within Berlinale Talent Campus and CineLink Co-production Market 2016.
The Cinefondation’s Atelier was created in 2005 in order to stimulate creative filmmaking and encourage the emergence of a new generation of filmmakers. So far, out of 186 projects accompanied, 145 have been completed and 14 are currently in preproduction.
