BUCHAREST: Cristian Comeagă is in preproduction with the historical docu-drama series Romanians - The Story of a Nation / Românii – povestea unui neam, set to start shooting in June 2017.
The series follows a trend of national identity boosted by the anniversary of 100 years of modern Romania in 2018, which led to the change of the name of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage into the Ministry of Culture and National Identity at the end of 2016, when the Social Democrats won the Parliamentary elections.
Romanians - The Story of a Nation will consist of seven parts of 50 minutes each, following Romanian history from the Paleolithic to the uprising against Ceaușescu in December 1989. The 30th anniversary of the December Revolution in 2019 is another landmark for the project..
The episodes will consist of reenactments, where the narrator will introduce the characters. Historians and art critics are part of the team.
Comeagă is producing through Domino Film in coproduction with Studioul de creaţie cinematografică al Ministerului Culturii (the film studio of the Ministry of Culture). From the total budget of approximately 3.5 - 4 m EUR, only a small portion is already in place, Comeagă told the Romanian agency Mediafax. He doesn't have any state support yet.
Shooting already started, but principal shooting is set to launch in June 2017. Shooting should wrap beginning of summer 2018 and the first episode shoud have its premiere in December 2018.
Trained as a DoP, Cristian Comeagă has been the cinematographer and producer for director Nae Caranfil, before starting directing himself. His credits as a director include TV feature Monies, Cons and Bones / La bani, la cap, la oase (2010) and feature film The Chosen One / Cel ales (2015).
