CLUJ-NAPOCA: The documentary Planet Petrila by Andrei Dăscălescu will screen in the Romanian Days competition of the 16th Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) from 8 to 10 June 2017. The festival will run this year from 2 to 11 June. The film had its world premiere in the competition programme First Appearance of the International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam – IDFA 2016.

In Petrila, a coal mining town in Transylvania, the ex-miner turned artist and activist Ion Barbu uses art and absurdism to stop local authorities from demolishing the historic buildings of the oldest coal mine in the country after its closure in 2015, at the EU's recommendation. His quest is not only to preserve the history and the identity of his hometown, but also to find new ways of keeping the community from irreversibly falling apart.

Anamaria Antoci is producing through Romania’s Filmlab in coproduction with HBO Romania and with the support of the Romanian Film Centre and the Romanian Cultural Institute. The project was selected for Ex Oriente Film 2015 , East Doc Platform 2016 , East European Forum 2016 , East Silver 2016 and East Silver Caravan 2016 .

Dăscălescu won the First Appearance Award at IDFA for Constantin and Elena in 2008.
