BUCHAREST: Andrei Gruzsniczki is in preparation with his third feature film Zavera. The film is a coproduction between Romania and Luxembourg, but additional coproducers are welcome.
Zavera (an old Romanian word for “uprising”) is set during the funeral of a 47-year-old shrewd businessman, which turns into a Bacchanalia party, while his friends and business associates are fighting for his legacy, as their dark past comes back to haunt them. Gruzsniczki, Mircea Stăiculescu and Lia Bugnar wrote the script.
Actors Gavril Pătru, Dorian Boguță, Medeea Marinescu and Bogdan Zsolt are confirmed so far.
The film is currently in the casting and location scouting stage.
Alexandru Teodorescu is producing through Romania’s Saga Film in coproduction with Alexander Dumreicher-Ivanceanu though Amour Fou from Luxembourg. The estimated budget is 1.1 m EUR, representatives of Saga Film told FNE. The Romanian Film Center is supporting.
The film is expected to be shot for 26 days in April 2018 and to be finished in September 2018. The release is set for February 2019. No sales agent is attached yet.
Gruzsniczki previously made The Other Irina / Cealaltă Irina (Fundatia Arte Vizuale, 2009) and Q.E.D. (ICON production), which led the Gopo Awards nominations in 2015 with 17 nods.
