CLUJ-NAPOCA: Constantin Popescu’s third feature film Pororoca will screen in the Romanian Days competition of the 17th Transilvania IFF, running from 25 May to 3 June 2018. This Romanian/French coproduction received the best actor award for Bogdan Dumitrache at the 2017 San Sebastian FF.

The story written by Constantin Popescu follows a Romanian couple confronted with the loss of their small daughter in the park. The script was written especially for Dumitrache, who previously starred in Călin Peter Netzer's 2013 Golden Bear winner Child's Pose (Parada Film). The cast includes Iulia Lumânare, Adela Mărghidan, Ștefan Răuș, Costin Dogioiu and Mircea Gheorghiu.

The film was lensed and produced by Liviu Mărghidan through Scharf Film & Advertising in coproduction with Lissandra Haulica through France’s Irreverence Films. The Romanian Film Centre, Eurimages, the French CNC’s Aide aux Cinémas du Monde and l’Institut Français supported the project.

Wide Management sold the film to China, Spain, ex-Yugoslavia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay, following its premiere in the main competition of the 2017 San Sebastian FF.

In Romania Pororoca was released by Bad Unicorn on 19 January 2018 with 4,764 admissions to date.

Popescu's and Mărghidan's previous credits include Portrait of the Fighter as a Young Man directed by Popescu and produced by Filmex Film, which was selected for the 2010 Berlinale Forum.
