FNE at Transilvania IFF 2019 LIM Presentations: Romanian Project Blue Banks

    CLUJ-NAPOCA: The Romanian project Blue Banks was presented by director Andreea Bortun at the 8 June 2018 Less Is More (LIM) pitching forum at the Transilvania IFF, which spotlights low-budget films.

    Lavinia is a 28-year-old woman living with her son in a poor village in South Romania, whose partner dies. In order to escape her grief and survive, she takes on extra jobs, becoming estranged from her own son, and she becomes involved with a younger man. The woman takes a summer job that gives her a sense of freedom in Marseilles, she leaves her son behind.  At the end of the summer she doesn’t want to return home and blames her son for making her come back and miss out on her own youth. She confronts the limited realities of her future with bitterness.

    The film, produced by Atelier de Film, will begin shooting in 2020, over an entire four-season period. The budget is projected to be in the range of 500,000 – 800,000 EUR. The project received 8,000 EUR in development support from the Romanian Film Centre and has a French coproducer attached, Haiku Films.
