Media consolidating in Romania

    Media companies in Romania are consolidating, a report in The Diplomat Bucharest concludes.

    The report predicts that smaller stations are likely to be sold. While local businesmen are often at the helm, several leading media groups are owned at least in part by foreign entities, include MediaPro and CME (Pro TV, ProCinema, Acasa TV, TV Sport, MTV Romania), the Ringier Group and Turkish Dogan Media (Kanal D), and ProSiebenSat.1 (Prima TV and Kiss TV).

    A new player enterina the TV market is Confort Media Group, a company funded by real estate holdings which purt out a daily newspaper, that is expected to laaunch ring TV in early 2009. A company spokesman estimated the cost of launching the new channel to be 35 million euro over three years, with profit forecast for the sixth year of operations.
