Constantin Popescu (Tales from the Golden Age) has finished post-production of Portrait of the Fighter as a Young Man and started pre-production of Principles of Life.
Principles of Life, a slice of Romanian minimalism, is the story of a father who loses his wife's and son's respect without noticing it, taking place in the course of one day.
The film is produced by Ada Solomon and HiFilm Productions (www.hifilm.ro ). A foreign co-producer is to be confirmed. The screenplay is written by Răzvan Rădulescu (The Death of Mr. Lăzărescu) and Alexandru Baciu (Boogie).
The casting is in progress, and with Gabriel Huian (Marilena from P7) already set. The DOP is Liviu Marghidan (California Dreamin': Endless).
The film has a budget of €600,000. It received a €285,000 grant from the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro), €10,000 from Balkan Film Fund (www.filmfestival.gr ) as the recipient of Balkan Film Fund Thessaloniki Award, and €5,500 from SEE Network (www.gfc.gr ). It also had a €7,000 Montpellier Development Grant (www.cinemed.tm.fr ). The project participated at Cine Link Sarajevo (www.sff.ba ) and Connecting Cottbus (www.connecting-cottbus.de ).
Shooting is due to start on September 21, and will last for four to five weeks, taking place entirely in Bucharest.
