The Whistleblower, a first feature by Larysa Kondracki, will be shot in Romania this year with MediaPro Pictures (www.mediapropictures.com) providing services.
Rachel Weisz stars the contemporary drama based on true events following the war in ex-Yugoslavia. The British actress plays an American peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia who exposes a sex trade scandal involving employees of the United Nations.
The film is based on the story by Kathryn Bolkovac, who went to Bosnia as peacekeeper in 1999. Larysa Kondracki and Eilis Kirwan wrote the script.
Voltage Pictures (www.voltagepictures.com) is in charge of the international sales. The producers originally had planned to shoot in Hungary.
The shooting is to take place this year. No official information from MediaPro Pictures has been released. According to Romanian news reports, Weisz is expected in Romania at the end of September, her second time filming in Romania. Previously she shot The Brothers Bloom with MediaPro Pictures involved.
