If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle Wins Big at Gopo Awards

    BUCHAREST: Florin Şerban's debut film If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle received seven awards including Best Feature and Best First Feature at the Gopo gala, Romania's national film awards ceremony, on 28 March 2011.

    If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle /Eu când vreau să fluier, fluier, produced by Strada Film (stradafilm.ro), Film i Väst (www.filmivast.se) and The Chimney Pot (www.thechimneypot.com) was also awarded best director, best supporting actress (Clara Vodă), best sound, best newcomer (actor George Piştereanu), and it received the Audience Prize, given the fact that it was the Romanian film with the best results at the box office in 2010 with 55,858 tickets sold.

    Medal of Honor/Medalia de onoare, produced by Scharf Advertising and directed by Peter Călin Netzer, was won a best script award for Tudor Voican, and best leading actor for Victor Rebengiuc. Tuesday, After Christmas/Marţi, după Crăciun, produced by Multimedia Est (www.mme.ro) and directed by Radu Muntean was awarded best leading actress (Mirela Oprişor).

    The Portrait of a Fighter as a Young Man/Portretul luptătorului la tinereţe, the first feature of Constantin Popescu, produced by Filmex Film, received the prize for supporting actor - Bogdan Dumitrache and another one for cinematography - Liviu Mărghidan. Titus Muntean's Kino Caravan/Caravana cinematografică, produced by Libra Film (www.librafilm.net) was awarded for original music, make-up & hair styling, art design, and costumes.

    Andrei Ujică's The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu/Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceauşescu, produced by Icon Production, was awarded Best Documentary and best editing. The Cage/Colivia by Adrian Sitaru was awarded best short. The Romanian film professionals also voted Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon/Das weisse Band the best European film distributed in Romanian cinemas in 2010.

    The actor Ion Besoiu received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Gopo Gala (www.premiilegopo.ro) was initiated by the Romanian Film Promotion (www.romfilmpromotion.ro) five years ago .
