Father is a story about loss, focusing on a rejected and humiliated man, who becomes a hero through his journey walking from his village in the south of Serbia to the capital. He walks out of protest, out of despair, out of the wish to prove himself.
The project is a coproduction between Serbia’s Baš Čelik through Jelena Mitrović, Croatia’s Propeler Film through Boris Matić, Bosnia's SCCA/Pro.ba through Amra Bakšić, Germany’s Neue Mediopolis Filmproduktion GmbH through Aleksandar Ris, France’s ASAP Films through Čedomir Kolar and ZDF Arte.
Father has been granted 20,000 EUR / 40,000 KM from the Bosnian Film Fund on 1 December 2016, 100,000 EUR / 750,000 HK by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre on 2 December 2016, 243,252 EUR / 30 m RSD by Film Center Serbia in June 2016, as well as 150,000 EUR from Germany’s Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and 30,000 EUR by Creative Europe’s Media Programme. With their previously mentioned partner in France and Slovenia’s Vertigo, Golubović and his team are applying for more funds in the two countries. The total estimated budget of the film is 1,5 m EUR.
Father is expected to be shot in September/October 2017 with Golubović’s team of regulars including DoP Aleksandar Ilić, production designer Goran Joksimović and costume designer Ljiljana Petrović. The shooting will last eight weeks and the film should be completed by spring 2018.
