BRATISLAVA: The young Slovak production house MPhilms (www.mphilms.sk) is completing postproduction on its first feature film Fine, Thanks ahead of a 31 January 2013 premiere, while handling an ambitious and varied slate of three upcoming feature films.
(With negotiations underway for Czech and Hungarian distribution).
Those include an omnibus film Slovakia 2.0 consisting of 10 minute films from 10 Slovak directors that span the full array of generations, including Juraj Herz, Martin Sulik, Peter Kerekes, and Zuzana Liova. Producer and founder Matyas Prikler told FNE speaking at the Bratislava IFF.
“The film will have a Slovak theme, answering the question: What is Slovakia?” The directors are given a free hand in choosing their stories, and will be working in fiction, documentary, and animation formats. Budgeted at under 1 m EUR, the film will be funded by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund (www.avf.sk) and is coproduced by Film Park (www.filmpark.sk) which is providing 15% of the budget through in-kind services. The film is planned to be completed by the end of 2013 for the 20th anniversary of Slovak independence.
MPhilms is currently in production with Slovak documentary director Jaro Vojtek’s first fiction film, Children shot by Slovak DoP Tomas Stanek. The Slovak-Czech coproduction consists of four stories about parent/offspring relationships, with one story set in each of the four seasons. The final segment will be filmed in spring 2013. The budget is 450,000 EUR with 228,000 coming from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and 100,000 EUR from the Czech coproducer Duracfilm (www.duracfilm.cz). The producers are in negotiations with Czech TV (www.ceskatelevize.cz) for in-kind postproduction services.
Finally, MPhilms has also taken on the role of minority coproducer for the Hungarian film Mirage (www.filmpartners.hu) directed by Szabolcs Hajdu, which goes into production in summer 2013.
