BRATISLAVA: The retro family story Hostage is shooting its first segments following a year's delay in what was originally planned as a winter 2012 production. Location work runs through 7 September near Bratislava, employing sites in Borinka, Záhorská Ves and Sandberg.

Three more segments are scheduled for October, winter and April 2014, said Eva Horváthová of producer ALEF Film & Media Group. Written by Peter Pišťanek and Marian Urban, Hostage (Rukojemník) is a family-centered comedy-drama focusing on the world of children. The son of a local communist officer is hostage of his parents, who have emigrated to the West a few years before 1968, exposing the young man to his first big friendship, love, fights and encounters with the absurd reality of adult relations.

"The plot goes back to the period of '68, but it describes the universal story of the world of children and adults and describes how children – smaller copies of their parents – imitate the actions of adults," Horváthová told FNE. "Director Nvota and the film staff would like to link this project to classic Slovak and Czechoslovak films about children, which have disappeared from this area for more than 20 years."

The film produced by Urban and ALEF in co-production with RTVS, Czech Television, Film Laboratories Zlín and other Slovak and Czech partners and will premiere in September 2014.
