Slovak Film Institute puts Slovak films online for international audiences

    BRATISLAVA: The Slovak Film Institute has launched a major new webportal of Slovak film to celebrate its 50th anniversary.  SK Cinema is accessible at www.skcinema.sk and is presently only in Slovak but will be available also in English in the first half of 2014.

    Slovak Film Institute is also presenting a a special collection of Slovak archive documentaries at DAFilms.cz. It is for the first time that the Slovak archive films are available online to wide international audiences.

    Selection of documentary works by Dušan Hanák, Martin Slivka, Dezider Ursiny and Martin Šulík will be accompanied by a bonus collection of films from the crucial periods of Slovak (and Czechoslovak) history, the Prague Spring of August 1968 and the Velvet Revolution of November 1989 in the next days.

    With the exception of the Pictures of the Old World, all films will stay in the platform´s library for the whole of 2014. The event is organized as a collaboration of the Slovak Film Institute, Doc Alliance, the Slovak distribution company Filmtopia, with the financial support of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund.

    SK Cinema the new Slovka webportal makes three databases about Slovak film with thousands of entries available to the public. Initially in Slovka language the databases will be available for the first time later in the year in English.
