    PRODUCTION: Five Year Okhwan Doc Nears End of Journey Okhwan Yoon

    KARLOVY VARY: Director/producer Marek Mackovic is in postproduction with his debut film Okhwan, Mission Impossible, a road movie documentary about a South Korean bicycling the world.

    The main character, Ohkwan Yoon, gave up his life as a businessman to travel the world on bicycle on a ten-year journey through 192 countries. The film reflects on the nature of happiness and freedom, with Okhwan thinking of his divided homeland and longing to see it reunited.

    The film won the best pitch award at Asian Side of the Doc in Kuala Lumpur in 2013. It received 84,000 EUR from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, 22,000 EUR from Slovak public TV and has a budget of 320,000 EUR, with 50% of the budget coming from private funding.

    The documentary is a Slovak/UK coproduction and is currently in postproduction in France, with final post production work to take place in the UK or in the Czech Republic. The five-year-long project is scheduled to be released in January 2015.

    The film is produced by 2014 Emerging Producer Tomas Kaminsky for Mandala Pictures and coproduced by Mackovic and Peter Nevedal for Filmpark.
