Slovak Films Score with MEDIA

    BRATISLAVA: Four of the five Slovak films applying to the second call for proposals of the Creative Europe MEDIA Programme will receive development grants, making it the most successful session ever for Slovak films.

    Fool Moon production company, represented by producer and director Katarína Kerekesová (Stones, Mimi and Lisa) received support of 60,000 EUR for a 13 episode 3D animation series Websters, reflecting the contemporary world from the four-eyed point of view of the main character of the series: a spider.

    A new documentary project of the the directorial duo of Peter Kerekes and Ivan Ostrochovský (Velvet Terrorists), developed by the production company Peter Kerekes, received 25,000 EUR for Censors which will observe everyday routines of censors, those guides of morality and ideology who select, control and adjust the reflection of reality.

    Producer Wanda Hrycová and Wandal Production (Colette), received support of 30,000 EUR for the tragicomic Schengen Story, a feature combining a drama with a detective story and the bizarre comic character of the Slovak-Ukrainian border area. The project is expected to be the fourth feature of director Peter Bebjak.

    Support in the amount of 30,000 EUR was granted to the latest project from director Juraj Lehotský, Erik, an intimate story of a boy going through the difficult time of his parents' divorce. The film is produced by Ivan Ostrochovský and Punkchart Films.

    All the films were also supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund.

    The call for Audience Development was also successful for the Slovak audiovisual industry. The KineDok project, submitted by a consortium of companies from six countries, co-ordinated by the Czech Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) and including the Slovak distribution company Filmtopia, received support of 130,254 EUR.
