“It’s based on a contemporary Slovak book,” PubRes producer Zuzana Mistrikova told FNE. “It a horror comedy. Slovakia has a long tradition of crime comedies from the 1970’s.” The story begins with the murder of a young woman in the city’s Jewish quarter (which was mostly destroyed during the Communist regime), and a young police trainee who happens to be the only person at the station who isn’t drunk, is assigned to work on the case with an American FBI agent.

The 1.9m EUR coproduction is directed by Tomas Masin and was written by Marek Epstein. The film had its final day of shooting in early November and has moved to Prague for post-production. The cast includes Czech pop star and actor Vojtek Dyk, popular Czech actor Jiri Machacek as the FBI agent, Slovak star Tana Pauhofova, and Slovak theatre actor Richard Stanke as the city’s Mayor.

The film received support from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, the Czech Film Fund, Slovak Public TV and Czech Public TV, along with a grant of 270,000 EUR from Eurimages. It will be distributed by PubRes and Forum Film in Slovakia and Falcon in the Czech Republic in fall 2015.
