BRATISLAVA: The freshly formed Park Film Fest Trenčianske Teplice is building upon the Slovak spa town’s film tradition as the host of 23 editions of Art Film Fest and last year’s IFF Trenčianske Teplice. Park Film Fest will introduce two competitive sections dedicated to female directors and student filmmakers. This year’s edition will be held on 23-26 June 2017.
„We appreciate authentic films and their power to influence the society. We let the stories to be told by women, students and non-traditional formats, but most of all we want to encourage discussions about cinematography,“ says Eva Križková, who co-organises the festival.
Actress Zuzana Mauréry will head the jury for the main competition „Her Sight“ curated by Pamela Pianezza. This section will introduce female-only directors, among them Greek filmmaker Sofia Exarchou with her film Park and Julia Ducornau’s film Raw.
The student competition „Great Expectations“ will screen national film institute nominees from CEE countries. The programme focused on students will also have pannel discussions led by director and producer Ivan Ostrochovský and Polish producer Wiktor Piatkowski.
The national non-competitive focus sections, „Brasil Visual“ curated by Križková in cooperation with Portugese Institute and Embassy of Brazil and „Other Europe: Catalonia“ curated by Javier Garcia Puerto, will be screened indoors and also at the newly reconstructed Žaba swimming pool and at a local park. Brazilian director Charly Braun will introduce his film Russian Red, which will have its world premiere at the festival.
The festival has a budget of 171,000 EUR and was supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund with 50,000 EUR and also by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
