FNE at Artfilmfest 2018: Slovak Festival Set to Kick Off

    KOSICE: Thirteen films will compete for the Blue Angel award at Art Film Fest, which kicks off 15 June in the south-eastern Slovak town of Kosice. The festival, which has become an increasingly important event on the regional festival agenda, runs until 23 June.

    Speaking of the growing importance of Artfilmfest on the festival calendar two times Cannes awarded German producer and jury member Christoph Thoke said that there is beauty and relevance to come to a festival that is known for its powerful and inspiring selection of titles from the CEE region and beyond. “Serving on a jury is one of these exciting challenges and privileges that my profession involves. Just  not to forget, it is the respect for the filmmakers and their works that drives and unites us. I am looking forward to a wonderful week in Kosice”

    This year’s feature film competition jury boasts top filmmakers from five countries Slovakia, Ukraine, Poland, Russia and Germany who will decide the winners of the festival’s Blue Angel awards will be given out on 23 June.  They are Slovak producer Lívia Filusová, Ukrainian actress Marianna Kavka, Polish director Joanna Kos-Krauze, Russian actor and filmmaker Ivan Shvedoff and award winner German producer and Mogador Film helmer Christoph Thoke.

    On the industry side, Art Film Fest will present a panel about the phenomenon of women filmmakers in Slovakia and the contemporary situation of genre film in Slovakia.
