BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech animated short film Mimi & Lisa: Christmas Lights Mystery will premiere on 21 November in France, a day later in Slovak cinemas, on 6 December in the Czech Republic. The film is produced by Fool Moon and coproduced by Slovak Radio & TV and MAUR Film.

This 26-minute fairy-tale about two best friends, one blind and one sighted, whose abilities and disabilities work to help each other, is the latest addition to the popular Mimi & Lisa TV series. Slovart Publishing is also releasing it as a book in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

RTVS premiered the Mimi & Lisa animated series in 2013 and produced further 13 episodes in 2015. The series has also been successful in France, with six of the fairy-tales screened in cinemas in a 45-minute block, attracting over 70,000 viewers. It has also been shown in other territories, including the Czech Republic, Belgium, Brazil, China, Canada and Hong Kong. Italy’s RAI TV, Slovenia's public broadcaster RTVS and Finland’s YLE TV 2 have expressed interest in the Christmas film.

“Our French sales agent (Planet Nemo Animation) had the idea of a Christmas special,” said Katarína Kerekesová (co-director with Ivana Šebestová). “This was a big challenge – both because of the film’s length and the festive theme.”

The music, composed by Lucia Chuťková, is performed by Slovak Radio’s symphony orchestra and children’s choir, with Oscar winner (for Once) Markéta Irglová singing the Czech version.
