Gypsy Virgin bows in Slovakia

    Virgin Gypsy (Cinka Panna), a Slovak/Czech/Hungarian co-production, opened in Slovak cinemas on October 23.

    Directed by Slovak director Dusan Rapos, the film is based on the true story of the first recognized female leader of a Roma (the regional designation for "Gypsy") music group. Geoorgian actress Anna Gurji plays the lead role.

    "The budget of the film was 1,775,000 euros (SK 55 million). The Slovak republic covered 40% (Attack spol. s r. o., STV Bratislava), the Czech Republic 30% (CT Praha), and Hungary 30% (Focus film Budapest)," Slovak producer Katarina Vanzurova from the production company Attack Film spol. s r. o. (www.attackfilm.sk) told FNE via email.

    Gypsy Virgin was also received Eurimages support of 220,000 euros.

    "The film will be screened in Hungarian cinemas, and on Hungarian TV. and it will be available on DVD as well," said Vanzurova.

    The cinema premiere of Gypsy Virgin in the Czech republic is planned for February, 2nd in 2009.

    Since Slovak Television (STV) and Czech Television (CT) are also partners of the film, both have the rights to broadcast the film twelve months period after the premiere in each country.
