By Jana Kadlecová
The new Slovak Audiovisual Fund (www.avf.sk) received 169 applications in its first call since the fund was established on January 1, 2009.

Of those, only one application was discarded, leaving 168 projects competing for 1,360,000 EUR available in the first round. Recommendations should be decided by the end of the February.

The applications included 61 for feature films, 55 for documentary films, 31 for film festivals and cultural events, 13 for animated films for children, and nine for research/education/publishing activities.

The Audiovisual fund also launched a new call with information available on www.avf.sk. From February 1 to March 1, 2010, the applicants can submit applications for the production of fiction, documentary, animated, children, school, experimental and educational audiovisual works for cinema, television or other means of public distribution. This call is aimed at minority co-productions with the participation of Slovak companies under the criteria of the European Convention on Cinematographic co-production. Funds are also available for the distribution of Slovak and foreign films and for publications, research, and educational projects.
