The Polish-Slovak feature Strawberry Wine by Polish director Dariusz Jablonski premiered in Slovak cinemas on April 10.

Strawberry Wine is based on the book "Galician Tales" by Andrzej Stasiuk, Slovakia's most translated contemporary Polish writer. It tells the story of a policeman who moves from a large city to the country where he discovers the specialties and oddities of the place and its inhabitants. One of the main roles is played by famous Slovak actress Zuzana Fialová.

Filming began in summer 2005 and lasted through May 2006. In all, there were 50 filming days.

"Eighty percent of the budget was covered by Poland and 20 percent by Slovakia," Violetta Kaminska from Poland's Apple Film Production (www.applefilm.pl) said in an email exchange with FNE. "Our budget was €1.3 million."

The Slovak co-producer is Trigon Production (www.trigon-production.sk)

"We covered financial costs totaling €318,181, that is, 20 percent of the total budget," Trigon's Patrik Pašš told FNE in an email. "This sum was put together by a grant from the Slovak Ministry of Culture, Eurimages and our own sources."
