After his impressive debut with Izlet/A Trip at 24 years of age, Nejc Gazvoda is capturing in Dual (facebook) the subtle picture of a young generation to whom the road is wide open, but which doesn’t seem to find easily its place in the world.
The Danish Iben (Mia Jexen) has to make an emergency landing at Ljubljana airport where she gets to meet Tina (Nina Rakovec), who drives the airport shuttle bus. This is the starting point for a love story “that evolves around the fact that whatever the circumstances in life, people always strive to make their love happen,” says the director who wrote the script together with the established Slovenian writer and director Janez Lapajne.
The project is a Slovenian-Danish-Croatian coproduction, produced by Andrej Štritof and Aleš Pavlin through Perfo d.o.o. in coproduction with Morten Kjems Juhl through the Danish company Beofilm and Marina Andree Skop through the Croatian company Studio Dim. It is co-financed by the Slovenian Film Centre, the Danish Film Institute and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, and it also had additional financial support of the ZDF / Arte. The budget was 782,902 EUR, Pavlin told FNE.
The film was shot in 2012, starting at the end of August. Darko Herič is the DoP. The cast includes Nina Rakovec, Mia Jexen, Jure Henigman, Matjaž Tribušon, and Nataša Barbara Gračner.
Pavlin also told FNE that he is expecting the film to get the attention it deserves at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival where it will be screened in the East of the West competition from 28 June to 6 July 2013. “I expect that it will be a great start for the forthcoming world tour of the film,” Pavlin said.
The film was already picked by the German sales company Media Luna New Films, and it will be domestically distributed by Fivia starting 22 August 2013. “We expect it to be successful in home theatres,” Pavlin said.
