LJUBLJANA: One of the three feature documentaries at the Slovenian Film Festival in Portoroz is Dancing with Maria by Italian director Ivan Gergolet which premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
It tells the story of 90 year-old Argentinean Maria Fux, a celebrated dancer, choreographer and founder of dance therapy in Argentina who teaches students from all around the globe that it is not the tune that provokes movement; it is our inner rhythms such as heartbeat and breathing. Her studio has come to attract a very diverse crowd: dancers, actors, intellectuals, as well as the deaf, the blind, and people with physical or mental disabilities.
Italian, Argentinean and Slovenian production companies Transmedia, Imaginada Films and Staragara respectively have cooperated on this project which has also been co-funded by the Slovenian Film Center in the amount of 25,000 EUR.
