LJUBLJANA: The Slovenian drama A Comedy of Tears by Marko Sosič is being readied to be presented at the Market of the Cannes Film Festival. “Basically the film is completed. We’re are just making the final picture and sound corrections,” producer Boštjan Ikovic told FNE.
The film tells the story of an elderly cynic and choleric man, who lives a wheelchair in a spacious flat in Trieste. Albert is also a kind of a rasist, surrounded with his solitude of obsessive memory fragments, in which his unresolved relations with family members reside, as he distanced himself from them a long time ago. His only contact with reality is Ida, an educated middle-aged lady, who arrives at his place twice a week to clean up, cook for him and to bathe him.
The film is produced by Ikovic through Arsmedia in coproduction with Iridum Film, MB Grip and Zvokarna. The project is supported by the Slovenian Film Center with 150,000,00 EUR and by Italian Radio Television RAI, Regional center for Friuli Venezia Giulia – Slovene programme. Technical support has been provided by Studio Viba Film in equipment use valued at 70,000 EUR.
The total budget is 322,600 EUR without additional and promotional costs, Ikovic told FNE. The Slovenian Film Center contributed 46.50% of the budget, Studio Viba Film 21.74%, and Arsmedia with coproduction companies 31.77%.
