PORTOROŽ: Family Film / Rodinný Film by Prague-based Slovenian director Olmo Omerzu will be screened in the competition of the 19th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož (13-18 September 2016). The film is a Czech/German/French/Slovenian/Slovak coproduction shot on location in Prague and at the sea in Thailand.
A husband and wife set sail on the ocean, leaving their two children at home to explore the freedom offered by the absence of parental supervision. But fear clouds the kids’ seemingly carefree life after they lose contact with their parents, whose boat capsises in a storm.
Family Film was highly acclaimed by Czech critics and participated in many international film festivals, including San Sebastian and Tokyo IFF, where it was awarded for Best Artistic Contribution. It was already released in Slovenian cinemas in February 2016 with over 3,000 admissions so far.
The film was produced by Jiří Konečný through endorfilm in a coproduction with France’s Rouge International, German’s 42film, Slovenia’s Arsmedia, Slovakia’s Punkchart films and the Czech Television. It was supported by the Czech State Cinematography Fund, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, the Slovenian Film Center, MDM Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and the MEDIA Programme. The total budget is 1.45 m EUR. “The Slovenian coproduction share was 9.65 % (154,874 EUR), of which the Slovenian Film Center has contributed 77,500 EUR, Arsmedia 51,837 EUR and the Film Studio FS Viba 25,537 EUR”, Slovenian coproducer Boštjan Ikovic told FNE.
