LJUBLJANA: Slovenian films are riding high at the local box office with three local productions scoring places in the top ten at the local box office.
The drama Awakenings / Prebujanja about relationships among couples in their 30’s opened in sixth place, with 3,500 admissions on opening week-end. The film is directed by Peter Bratusa and stars Slovenian actress Katarina Cas, whose US credits include The Wolf of Wall Street. It was produced by Tilen Ravnikar through Felina in coproduction with RTV Slovenija on a budget of 286,000 EUR and is distributed by Karantanija Cinemas.
The film was just behind the popular youth comedy Let Him Be a Basketball Player / Košarkar naj bo by Boris Petkovič, which fell to fifth place after seven weeks in distribution and admissions closing in on 55,000. The 817,000 EUR film was produced by Frenk Celarc through Gustav Film in coproduction with RTV Slovenija, MB Grip, Studio Ritem, Unicasting and Pecl. The project was supported by the Slovenian Film Center, FS Viba and through the Media support for the development of individual projects. It is released in Slovenian cinemas by Fivia.
The police comedy/farce Milice 2 produced and written by its two leads, Saso Dukic and Franci Kek, was in eighth place after three weeks in release, coming in at 6,300 admissions for distributor Fivia.
