Three replacements at Slovenian Film Fund supervisory board

By Matevz Rudolf
Slovenia's new minister of culture, former film critic Majda Sirca, announced the dismissal of three members (Igor Prodnik, Stane Malcic and Joze Pogacnik) of the Slovenian Film Fund supervisory board.

The three had drawn disapproval from many Slovenian film producers and directors who believe that the Slovenian Film Fund became politicized during their administration and created serious problems in the Slovenian film industry. The minister stated: "This decision is the result of many accumulated issues at the Slovenian Film Fund in the last years and doubts about the legislative correctness of procedures in the past."

Pogacnik responded that the minister's decision is politically motivated, unethical and discriminatory, asserting that all his decision were taken based on his knowledge as a film expert. Malcic and Prodnik did not publicly respond to the decision.

The government has already appointed three new members to the supervisory board: theatre director Dusan Jovanovic, lawyer Nikola Todorovic and financier Marjetica Mahne. According to the minister, "The critical condition at the Slovenian Film Fund requires a good combination of financial, juridical and art experts." Slovenian filmmakers have not yet responded to the minister's choices.
