By Kerem Akca

The documentary Turkish Passport directed by Burak Arliel makes its world premiere in the Turkish national competition section of the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival (17-25 September 2011, www.goldenbollfilmfestival.com)

{mosimage}Turkish Passport looks at the world of diplomats posted to Turkish Embassies and Consulates in several European countries, who saved numerous Jews during the Second World War. It has been an untold story in Turkish cinema for years.

The documentary's process started in 2009 and finished two years later, in difficult circumstances. It is the first documentary Arliel after working on some 50 commercials. He started his career as an editor in 1990's. He edited the box office hits Bandit (Eskiya) which had Sener Sen on lead role and Everyting Will Be Great (Her Sey Cok Guzel Olacak) with had Cem Yilmaz on lead role. After these films (directed by Omer Vargi, an important figure in Turkey's popular cinema for 15 years) Karliel started to direct commercials, gaining a reputation in the field over the course of six years.

The production is produced by Inter Film Istanbul (www.interfilmistanbul.com.tr) which is known mainly as a company that produces commercials.
