The "Critics Award" section line-up will be evaluated by a jury
of international and local film critics and the producer of the winning film will be
awarded $15,000.
The competition line-up includes:
--Asif Kapadia's Sara Maitland adaptation of Far North,an epic tale set in the harsh
beauty of the Arctic, starring Michelle Yeoh and Sean Bean
--Sergei Bodrov's Mongol, a Germany-Kazakhstan-Russian co-production on the life of the
founder of the biggest empire in history, the legendary Genghis Khan
--You, the Living, Roy Andersson's nsrration of the nature of humankind, its greatness,
its baseness, joy and sorrow
--Tony Ayres' The Home Song Stories, about a Chinese singer and her family who settle in
Australia in the 1970s starring Joan Chen
--Kenneth Bi's film The Drummer, which combines an engaging character-driven story with
dramatic action and the stunning art of Chinese zen drumming
--Eran Korilin's feature directorial debut, The Band's Visit, which won the Jury Coup de
Coeur prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival
--The Assembly, the latest film bu celebrated Chinese director Xiaogang Feng, the
adaptation of a short story about a soldier who seeks recognition for his fallen comrades
during the Chinese civil war in 1949
--and French star Sophie Marceau's second feature film as a director, Trivial.
Two Turkish productions are featured in the competition section of the International
Eurasia Film Festival this year: Egg," the first film of a trilogy by Semih Kaplanoğlu,
which was screened at Cannes; and Handan İpekçi's latest feature Hidden Faces, based on
the issue of "honour crimes" in Turkey.
