Press release: Best Intentions awarded FNE Visegrad Prix for best fiction coproduction

WARSAW: The Hungarian coproducer of Adrian Sitaru's Best Intentions has been awarded the prestigious FNE Visegrad Prix for best fiction coproduction. The prix was awarded at the closing ceremony of Jameson CineFest - Miskolc International Film Festival 2011 (17-25 September). Hungarian coproducer Emoke Vagasi of Cor Leonis Films (http://www.corleonisfilms.hu/) collected the 1000 euros cash prize from FNE editor Cathy Meils at the festival's gala closing ceremony on 24 September 2011.

{mosimage}The winner was selected by the festival's main jury. The Romanian-Hungarian coproduction was a testament to Hungarian tenacity in the face of a film funding crisis that saw domestic film production nearly grind to a halt over the past year. Vagasi told FNE that she produced the film without any state funding. Cor Leonis was able to provide 45% of the film's 750,000 budget, largely through theatrical distribution and TV presales. The film also received a grant from Eurimages.

In her acceptance speech, Vagasi noted the importance of a prize for best coproduction. She also had high praise for her coproduction partner, Ada Solomon of HiFilm Production, a fellow graduate of EAVE. The film has already won prizes for Best Director and Best Actor in Locarno FF this year.

{mosimage}The Prix is an initiative of Film New Europe and backed by the International Visegrad Fund (www.visegradfund.org) The prize is being awarded to recognize the artistic achievements of filmmakers in the Visegrad countries and to encourage cultural co-operation between partners within Visegrad countries and partners in other European countries of the European Union as well as internationally. The competitive prize is organized together with the support of Jameson CineFest - Miskolc International Film Festival (www.cinefest.hu) in Hungary, International Bratislava Film Festival (www.iffbratislava.sk) in Slovakia, Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (www.dokument-festival.cz) in the Czech Republic and Era New Horizons International Film Festival (www.enh.pl) in Poland. The winner will also receive publicity to the value of 5000 Euros on FNE throughout the year and promotion at other participating film festivals. A further Prix for best documentary coproduction film will be awarded at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (25-30 October 2011).
