KINO FUTURES WORKSHOPS: BIAFF GEORGIA

Postcode Films and BIAFF (Batumi International Art-house film festival) are very excited to announce the launch of Kino Futures.

Developed in partnership with the British Council, Kino Futures is a series of documentary workshops in the Black Sea region, aiming to engage and develop the talents of young filmmakers, as well as create a series of film ‘postcards’ that will be relayed throughout the region and internationally.

The project will begin this year at the Batumi Art House Film Festival in Georgia, in September 2012, where the workshops will be led by Elhum Shakerifar, Ed Owles and Zviad Eliziani, and will include master-classes with award-winning British filmmaker Sean McAllister.

We will work with 3 groups to produce short films during the week. Each group will be made up of 4 people (film makers, script-writer, camera man) who will work together to produce a short film and benefit from the in depth support of facilitators on areas including production, pitching and editing.

Workshops will take place between 17th and 22nd September 2012, during the BIAFF in Batumi. Some preparatory sessions will be held online before the workshop.

    Idea for a FILM POSTCARD

What we mean by ‘Film Postcard’ is an idea for the short film that will be produced during the week, and will become part of the film relay that will next travel to Ukraine. Postcode Films often works to build portraits of people and places, and we encourage filmmakers to make films about things that are new to them. Suggestions could be to go to an area you don’t know, speak to a community member that you’ve heard about but never met, etc. We are keen to you to tell a story about life in Georgia, in however big or small a way. This is the place to tell us your thoughts on what your film ‘postcard’ to Ukraine would be – both the story, and the style!

The project is supported by British Council.
