£10,000 Business Prize awarded to Screen Facilities Scotland

Screen Facilities Scotland - a collaboration of Scottish-based film, television and commercials facilities companies - has just won a £10,000 prize for business development awarded by Co-operative Development Scotland (CDS).

For the past year, many of Scotland’s foremost film, television and commercials facilities companies have joined forces to explore how combined and collaborative endeavours may improve their commercial fortunes in the face of lucrative contracts, even some originating in Scotland, being won by businesses based elsewhere. Screen Facilities Scotland aims to increase core business, strengthen company reputations, be a unified lobbying voice for the member companies and secure jobs and growth for the Scottish film, television and commercials production sector.

The award-winning entry was spearheaded by Artem Ltd. – the Physical Special Effects Company whose Glasgow division was opened in 2006. Joanna Dewar Gibb, Business Manager in Glasgow said: “ Winning this £10,000 prize has given us a much-needed boost to take this creative collaboration forward in a robust, meaningful way.  We are delighted that CDS has recognised Screen Facilities Scotland with this award and can help us achieve our aims using the prize money and consultancy services together with CDS' streamlined, business template for co-operative working."

Joint initiatives to date from Screen Facilities Scotland have included a large scale collaborative marketing effort producing five short trailers, generically promoting the work of Scottish facilities companies. These trailers were shown at every session at the 2011 Media Guardian Edinburgh Television Festival. The companies also shared exhibition space booked by Creative Scotland at The Production Show in Earl’s Court, London, and February 2012, to promote both Scotland as a location and as a country that has the relevant production facilities and services available locally.

Members of the Working Group driving Screen Facilities Scotland forward include: Artem Ltd, The Hive Post Production, Rage Music, 422.tv, Visual Impact (Scotland) Ltd., and Hammerhead TV.
