Both films 
recently came out of postproduction, ready to launch their international career.
Depicting the encounter between an old man, widowed by the recent floods, and his son 
that has been living in Japan for a long time, JAPANESE DOG allows a disillusioning look
into the reality of elderly people, living a rather lonesome life on the countryside: looking 
for a better life, all young people have gone to the cities or abroad, leaving elder 
generations behind. When his son visits the protagonist, both of their expectations run 
high and during this brief reencounter, they try to overcome the distance that has grown 
between them. As his son and his family have to part, they leave him a Japanese 
Robodog as a souvenir of their visit that will ultimately change his life forever.
JAPANESE DOG, produced by Tudor Giurgiu’s Libra Film Productions and spotted by 
m-appeal at the Agora Works in Progress in Thessaloniki, is director Tudor Cristian 
Jurgiu’s first feature film.
Less of an every day life’s topic, the Russian title THE MAJOR by director Yuri Bykov
tells the story of a deadly accident that a police officer is trying to hush up: On a cold 
winter’s day Sergey Sobolev, a major at the local police station, is driving to the hospital 
where his wife is about to give birth to their child. High from happiness, he’s driving too 
fast and runs down a boy on a passage walk who dies. Now the major has only two 
options: go to prison or conceal the crime. Sobolev decides to compromise with his 
conscience, and he calls on a colleague to help him out. But the case turns out to be 
messy and when Sobolev finally changes his mind and tries to make up for his deed, it’s 
already too late…
With a fast rhythm and tending towards a thriller, THE MAJOR, produced by Rock 
Films, has high entertainment value, covering at the same time vibrant topics like police 
corruption and violence.
Maren Kroymann, Aleksandra Abykova and Katja Lenarčič will attend the Marché 
du film in Cannes from May 15 until 23, presenting the most recent m-appeal titles at 
booth n°E20.
