PLUS CAMERIMAGE 2013: AUTHORS’ RIGHTS - A CHALLENGE FOR EUROPE

Plus Camerimage Festival and BVK (German Society of Cinematographers) will start a discussion about another aspect of the authors’ rights issues. There is an ongoing debate across the world about how to make filmmakers have their share in the turnover generated by the use of the creative work, even on the Internet. We would like to address these matters by hosting a panel discussion at the upcoming Plus Camerimage Festival (16th-23rd Nov).

The development of an audiovisual work depends on the creative contribution from various professionals and their individual artistic skills. Therefore, the whole film industry is based on the output of their intellect and creativity and the enormous revenue derived from the exploitation of films they create. The question then arises: what share of the turnover should be directed to those who invest their ideas and artistic skills to create an audiovisual piece of work? A considerable time and effort is spent in some European countries on developing a fair way of remuneration and sharing the revenue. The panel is aimed to address these and other related issues. After a brief introduction the panel will discuss the present situation and the progress made in different European countries, as well as the chances of introducing fair solutions.

More details about the event, invited speakers, exact date and time, etc. will be given on a later date. Please stay tuned.
