EAST DOC PLATFORM - March, 3 - 9, 2014, Prague

    (March, 3 – 9, 2014, Prague – Cervantes Institute, Komedie Theatre)

There are just a few weeks left until the beginning of the third edition of the largest documentary industry event of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe - East Doc Platform.

This event is organized by Institute of Documentary Film (IDF), an organization dedicated to supporting Central and East European documentary films in all stages of completion, in association with One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival. East Doc Platform will welcome 350 guests and provide networking opportunities to directors and producers from the region and key international commissioning editors, buyers, distributors, festival, sales, fund and institution representatives at two main venues - Cervantes Institute and Komedie Theatre. The core of East Doc Platform’s open programme lies in a series of master classes, lectures, case studies, screenings and public project presentations held by renowned documentary makers and producers. Following last year’s success, East Doc Platform opens the majority of its programme to the public again, inviting all accredited journalists, visitors and guests of One World festival.

Doc Tank will show An Arts Detective story or a protest against the vaccination of children

Doc Tank project– a new programme section of EDP being introduced this year, will focus on cross-media projects with an activist approach and social campaign potential. The public presentation of the seven selected projects of the first edition of this programme will take place March 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cervantes Institute.  It will be open to all One World or East Doc Platform Industry pass holders. „The aim of Doc Tank is to become a development laboratory for projects with cross-media elements or projects connected to a bigger social campaign realized across multiple platforms and genres. Each of them will get a tailored programme and selected experts focused on new media, web design, artistic projects, crowdfunding or distribution who will help to further develop the project and think up a suitable strategy for it,“ says Miriam Ryndová from the Institute of Documentary Film.

Out of the seven selected projects you can look forward to hearing about An Arts Detective Story, in which the director Andrea Culková and her team of specialists collect and put together the clues to create a detailed map to the story of two unique figures of European modernity: Milada Součková and Zdeněk Rykr. Tamara Moyzes focuses  in her project, Artpopuli,  on destroying the barriers between art and populism. Tereza Reichlová and Hynek Reich Štětka will introduce their project Vaccination. The film about a couple, who wants to sue the Czech state for making them vaccinate their daughter, deals with the right for an individual choice, the lobby of pharmaceutical industry and the policy of fear that needs to be tackled.

Fights of Russian extremists and a portrait of Karel Zeman

EDP Open programme also offers on March 8 at Theatre Komedie (9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) a public presentation of the 14th edition of East European Forum. The board of experts went through more than 130 applicants and eventually picked 8 projects. These will first take part in the preparatory workshop, where the filmmakers will have five days to fine-tune their presentation in every way.
14 projects that went through the 2013 Ex Oriente Film workshop will join them. On the public presentation it will be possible to get more information about the forthcoming projects, for example The Key to Clockwork Orange, mapping the violent conflicts between the Russian skinheads and Antifa members, taking place in the whole Russia for the past 10 years.  Love Express – the curious case of Walerian Borowczyk will show how one of the greatest visionaries of European cinematography shifts from art making towards pornography. Czech documentaries  will be represented  by the biographical film Karel Zeman – Adventurer in Film, looking back on the life of the classic figure of the world cinematography.
