The Producers launch first promo today, Tom Green joins the cast as a cult leader on the Moon.

Iron Sky The Coming Race, a sequel to the 2012 cult hit Iron Sky, is marching towards the 2015 production, eyeing 2016 release. Today, November 6th, the filmmakers have launched a 4 minute promo of the upcoming film, featuring Adolf Hitler riding a dinosaur in the Hollow Earth. The promo spearheads a crowd funding campaign, which – if successful – has a record-breaking total $10 million, to be raised over the period of 18 months. So far, the company Iron Sky Universe has raised in the previous two successful rounds $519 000. The next phase, opening today on IndieGoGo and lasting for 45 days, is focused on the pre-production of the sequel, and aims to raise minimum of $500 000 from the worldwide fanbase.

The producers, Iron Sky Universe from Finland and 27 Films Production from Germany have secured Finnish Film Foundation, HessenInvestFilm and Medienboard Berlin- Brandenburg and will bring 40 % of the budget as soft money into the $ 15 million production budget. The remaining 60 % will be raised from crowdfunding and if necessary from presales and equity. “The main rule in Iron Sky The Coming Race financing is to maintain the control how the film will be distributed. I learnt a big lesson with first Iron Sky when half of the world had to wait for the film and had no other change than to pirate it. This we can’t allow to happen again.” Producer Tero Kaukomaa comments.

The producers are pre-selling the film directly to the fans who are potentially also engaged with Iron Sky through various collaboration opportunities of the film production process.

The casting is also underway. In addition to returning actors from part one – mainly Udo Kier (Melancholia, Armageddon, Blade) and Julia Dietze (11⁄2 Ritter, Bullet), new international names are added to the team. First announcement is Canadian comedian and actor Tom Green (Charlie’s Angels, Road Trip, Freddy Got Fingered).

Director Timo Vuorensola comments the casting; “I knew there’s a place for great comedians in the next film, and Tom’s name came up in discussions. His raunchy, unapologetic approach fits well with what we’re doing here, and I’m excited to get shooting with Tom. Also, the role as a charismatic cult leader on the Dark Side of the Moon is delicious comedy material.”
