B'EST EAVE ends with an award ceremony in Cannes

The B'EST EAVE 2015 Producers Workshop ends today with the best project award announced at the Baltic Event reception in Cannes. The 12 000 Euros of development support is granted by the P.O.V. Film Development Fund. The award goes to producer Maxim Dashkin's (Russia) project The Longest Birthday.

B'EST EAVE Producers Workshop, which took place in St Petersburg, Russia, in September, and during Baltic Event in Tallinn, Estonia, in November, ran for the 4th time in 2015. Organised in collaboration with the training programme EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs) and CTB Film Company (Russia), and supported by Creative Europe MEDIA Programme and Indigo Hotel St Petersburg, it is an initiative designed specifically for co-production projects between the European Union and the CIS countries, Georgia and Ukraine. Eight projects and four participants without projects were presented in its 2015 edition with participants coming from Germany, Estonia, Finland, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, and Lithuania.

The Longest Birthday (director Frederikke Asppock, screenwriter Savion Einstein) is a road-movie about a young mother who travels through multiple time zones with her fatally ill son to give him the longest birthday ever. Riina Sildos, the Head of Studies, and Natalia Drozd, the Head of P.O.V. Film Development Fund, admitted that The Longest Birthday was one of the most promising projects at B’EST EAVE 2015, and the development process of the project has convinced them that the resulting film will be applauded internationally by audiences and critics alike.

The P.O.V. Film Development Fund provides financial, educational, and other forms of support for the development of feature film co-productions with Russia.

B'EST EAVE will discontinue in 2016, but negotiations with potential partners in the CIS countries will hopefully result in a comeback in the coming years.

Baltic Event, B'EST EAVE's host event during Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in the framework of Industry@Tallinn, will take place on November 21-24, 2016. The Call for Projects will be announced in the beginning of June.
