Digital Cube, the biggest Romanian post-production studio, offers a 20.000 euro award at the Sarajevo Film Festival

    Digital Cube, one of the biggest post-production companies in Eastern Europe, providing complete solutions for the digital cinematography, will offer an award at the 22nd edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival (12 – 20 August). The value of the prize is 20.000 euros in post-production image services for the winning film of the Docu Rough Cut Boutique section.

    Docu Rough Cut Boutique is an intensive five-day programme exclusively focused on documentary films from Southeast Europe that are in production or post-production. The projects selected for mentorship this year are: City of The Sun (d. Rati Oneli), F**k YU (d. Marija Ratković Vidaković & Dinka Radonić), Ultra (d. Balazs Simonyi),I Am Hercules (d. Marius Iacob), In The Shadow of War (d. Reyan Tuvi).The wining project will be decided by Cristian Nicolescu, the company’s representative to the festival.

    Digital Cube is a constant collaborator of the Sarajevo Film Festival, starting with 2013. Amongst the films awarded in the Docu Rough Cut Boutique section and that benefited from the post-production services offered by Digital Cube we can mention Korida (d. Siniša Vidović, Austria), a film about the bullfights in Bosnia, already nomitated for the best documentary award at the Max Ophϋls Festival and selected this year in the official competition at the Sarajevo Film Festival, and Drifter (d. Gábor Hörcher), an adrenaline-filled but also touching Hungarian thriller, winner of the debut prize at the documentary film festival of Amsterdam in 2014 and a special mention at the goEast Festival in 2015.

    Digital Cube is proud to have provided post-production services for another feature film selected in this year’s edition of the festival: Album, directed by Mehmet Can Mertoğlu and shoot by Marius Panduru, that had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Semaine de la Critique section, where it received the Premium France 4 Visionary award. The 4K scanning and grading were the key solution for a beautiful and full of detail 4k projection.

    Cătălin Mitulescu’s new feature film, Dincolo de calea ferată/ By The Rails (d. Catălin Mitulescu, Romania), awarded with a special mention at the Karlovy Vary Festival this summer, also benefited from the companies post-production services, the two founding partners of Digital Cube and also representative film editors, Cristian Nicolescu and Eugen Kelemen, were the co-producers of the film.

    Cristian Nicolescu (Cum mi-am petrecut sfârșitul lumii/ The Way I Spent The End of The World and Nunta mută/ Silent Wedding) is finishing the editing of Daniel Sandu’s directorial debut, Un pas în urma serafimilor/ One Step Behind The Seraphim, produced by Ada Solomon, and Eugen Kelemen (Periferic, Box and the HBO România series Umbre/ Shadows) started the editing of the debut film of Mihaela Popescu, În pronunțare, produced by Alex Teodorescu.

    At the beginning of summer, Digital Cube provided editing assistance services and the editing equipment for the highly-anticipated Harley Davidson miniseries produced by Discovery Channel (premieres on September 5th). At present Digital Cube have started the post-production for the HBO Europe miniseries Valea mută/ The Valley of Silence, directed by Marian Crișan and filmed by Tudor Mircea.

    Digital Cube was established in 2010 and has grown to be the biggest post-production studio in Romania. It offers the cinema industry professionals complete post-production services, including editing services and equipment, both in the studio and on set, digital dailies, film and TV coloring with state-of-the-art Baselight and Barco equipment, scanning and 4K film restauration, HD/UHD mastering for television and 2K and 4K encoding for DCP. It’s team comprises gifted and experienced technicians, colorists and project managers. The highly appreciated colorist Claudiu Doagă recently joined the Digital Cube team. During his career he has worked with renouned DOPs such as John Seale (Cold Mountain), Shelly Johnson (Expandables 2), Emanuel Kadosh (Modigliani), Marius Panduru (Box, Periferic) and Oleg Mutu (După dealuri / Beyond The Hills, La limita de jos a cerului / The Unsaved). At the moment he has finished the grading process for Cristina Iacob’s latest project, Selfie 69, filmed by Barbu Bălășoiu.
