Slovak Film News: September showcases of Slovak films

    Slovak Films in Australia - On Sept 14 the Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australiakicked off its fourth edition! The festival commenced in Melbourne and will continue to Perth, Sydney and for the first time also to Canberra.

    This year´s edition introduces the most significant film adaptations of Slovak and Czech literature. On this occasion two Slovak archive films are shown: Dragon´s Return by Eduard Grečner and a fairy tale Lady Winter by Juraj Jakubisko. 

    Besides, another archive film
    The Man Who Lies by Alain Robbe-Grillet & a great number of Slovak contemporary titles – both feature and short – will be presented.

    Slovak Film Days in Hungary and Serbia

    Representative showcases held in reference to the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union draw attention on successful contemporary, as well as archive Slovak films, and bring to Hungarian and Serbian audiences an appealing image of Slovak cinema.

    The Best of Slovak from Czechoslovak New Wave in Berlin

    A collection of films curated by Jörg Friess will be screened in Zeughauskino – Deutsches historisches Museum in Berlinon Sept 20 - 30

    The showcase features eight masterpieces: The Boxer and Death and Before Tonight Is Over by the great observer of human soul Peter Solan, a visual gem The Organ by Štefan Uher, a ballad of love, revenge and desire Dragon´s Return by Eduard Grečner, an impressive documentary Pictures of the Old World by Dušan Hanák, two eccentric pieces Birdies, Orphans and Fools by Juraj Jakubisko and Wild Lilies by Elo Havetta, and the selection cannot be complete without the breakthrough film Sun in a Net by Štefan Uher - the first film of the Czechoslovak New Wave of the 1960s.

    Visegrad Film Festival in Cork

    The aim of the Visegrad Film Festival in Cork is to launch an intercultural dialogue between Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Ireland. The festival presents a wide range of quality films from the region of the V4 countries.

    The core of the Slovak films' pick consists of outstanding archive films released on Blu-Rays in honour of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union: Paper Heads (d. Dušan Hanák),
    I Love, You Love (d. Dušan Hanák) and The Boxer and Death
    (d. Peter Solan), accompanied by a dazzling title Blind Loves(d. Juraj Lehotský), documentary 5 October(d. Martin Kollar) and a representative collection of Slovak shorts.
