AVF & SFC - statement on the situation in Ukraine

The Slovak Audiovisual Fund and the Slovak Film Commission express full solidarity with the country, people, and institutions of Ukraine, following its non-acceptable invasion by Russian Armed Forces.

We consider Ukraine our close co-production partner and an integral part of the European audiovisual sector, and several recent co-productions have proved it (107 Mothers/Cenzorka by Peter Kerekes, The Line by Peter Bebjak, The Painted Bird by Vaclav Marhoul a TV series Slavs by Peter Bebjak, Michal Blaško, Serhii Sanin, Oleg Stakhursky).

In 2021 Afghanistan was taken by the Taliban. Slovak producer Wanda Adamik Hrycova asked for help for our Afghan – Slovak filmmaker Sahraa Karimi. Ukraine helped immediately. We will help, too.

The Slovak Audiovisual Fund and Slovak Film Commission support Ukrainian colleagues in their fight for freedom. We are prepared to find and to establish structures, such as artist residencies, to help Ukrainian filmmakers. In close communication with our partners in Slovakia and Ukraine we will prepare efficient solutions to save and to develop our close cooperation.

    We stay with you.
