MUNICH: Roman Ďuriš’s debut Fakir will have its world premiere at the largest festival of documentary films in Germany, DOK.fest Munich, on 3 May 2024. The film talks about breaking toxic generational cycles and trauma, which is a highly relevant topic especially among young people.

The main character of the film is 23-year-old Dalibor, who after being released from prison, finds out that his violent father has a chance to get custody of his younger brother. He therefore decides to help his mother with the custody battle, while starting to process his pain as a fakir in a travelling circus.

Fakir was produced by Slovakia’s Bright Sight Pictures in coproduction with Czech Lonely Production, Poland’s Lumisenta Foundation, and the Radio and Television of Slovakia, with support from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, the Visegrad Fund and the Czech Film Fund.

After DOK.fest Munich, the film will screen at the largest Polish documentary film festival Millennium Docs against Gravity on 11 May 2024, at the festival Al Este in Peru (Lima) in early June 2024, and it will be theatrically released in Slovakia and Czech Republic this autumn and in the spring of 2025, respectively.
