BERLIN: New York based playwright, director and screenwriter Celine Song makes her cinematic debut with Past Lives which screens in the main competition in Berlin.  The film already screened in Sundance earlier this year where it garnered rave reviews.

CANNES: Films from Hungary and Poland are among the 11 titles selected for Cannes’ Short Films competition, while the La Cinef selection counts 16 films among which two are from the Czech Republic.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian director and scriptwriter Ildikó Enyedi will chair the Short Film and La Cinef juries at the upcoming edition of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held 16 – 27 May 2023.

WARSAW: The Polish/French documentary In the Rearview by Maciek Hamela, which was shot in Ukraine, is among the nine titles selected for the 31st edition of the ACID Programme, taking place within the Cannes Film Festival from 17 to 26 May 2023.

TBILISI: The Swiss/Georgian coproduction Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry / Merle merle mûre by Georgian director Elene Naveriani was selected for the 55th edition of Directors' Fortnight (Quinzaine des cineastes, 17 – 26 May 2023).

BELGRADE: The sophomore feature by Serbian director Vladimir Perišić has been selected for the 62nd edition of Critics’ Week (Semaine de la Critique), one of the sidebar sections of the Cannes Film Festival. This coproduction between France, Serbia, Luxembourg and Croatia stars Quo Vadis, Aida?'s Jasna Đuričić. Croatian/Spanish short film The Real Truth about the Fight by Andrea Slaviček was also selected for Critics’ Week.

WARSAW: The Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest by Jonathan Glazer has been selected for the Competition of the 76th edition of Festival de Cannes (16 – 27 May 2023). The film is a coproduction between the UK, Poland and the USA, coproduced in Poland by Ewa Puszczynska through Extreme Emotions.

PRAGUE/BRATISLAVA: With the passing of Juraj Jakubisko we mourn not only the loss of one of the greatest living artists in Europe, but the passing of an era. Juraj Jakubisko was the last of a generation of filmmakers from the region that were giants in a time of political and artistic change.

BERLIN: The French/Japanese documentary On the Adamant by Nicolas Phillibert received the Golden Bear for Best Film at the 73rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, held 16 – 26 February 2023.

BERLIN: Two minority coproductions from FNE partner countries and two films produced and coproduced by FNE partner countries have been selected for the most important competition sections of the 73rd Berlin IFF, Competition and Encounters.
