The City Municipality of Adana Golden Boll Film Festival, which is to be held for the 19th time this year from 17th-23rd September, is breaking new ground with its Mobile Cinema project. Embracing the slogan ‘Turkish Cinema on Tour from Adana to Anatolia’, the Mobile Cinema will set off from Adana on 17th July and take the magic of film to 61 districts in 38 provinces all over Anatolia. The tour, expected to cover a total distance of 14,500 km and reach thousands of viewers, will come to an end on 16th September in the southeastern city of Kahramanmaraş. As for the programme, audiences will treated to a selection of Turkish films from the last few years.

ADANA TO BE PROMOTED IN 61 DISTRICTS

In its various dimensions, the project provides a platform for promoting Adana in different parts of Anatolia, for sharing the Golden Boll Film Festival with the greater Anatolian public and for introducing the cultures of different regions. Conceived as a social responsibility project, the venture also undertakes to bring Turkish cinema to the doorstep of people all over Anatolia, to introduce people who may never have been to the cinema to the world of film and to give moral support to people in traumatized areas, particularly earthquake victims in Gölcük and Van.

Since the project coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, film screenings will be complemented by traditional forms of Ramadan entertainment such as band music, shadow plays, folk dancing and concerts. There will also be handouts of popcorn and candyfloss for children. The Mobile Cinema will bring a carnival spirit to every destination on its itinerary.

In a related statement, the deputy mayor of Adana, Zihni Aldırmaz, commented: “We plan to take the smiling face, the warmth and good will of Adana Province to all corners of Anatolia and in so doing to promote our city, the pearl of the Çukurova region. We will be holding out the hand of friendship to fellow citizens who face a diversity of problems in other parts of Anatolia and offering them moral support. Beyond that, we will also be introducing people who may never have been to the cinema before to the magic of film. My objective is on the one hand to support Turkish cinema, and on the other both to connect the Golden Boll with Anatolia and the public at large, and to give the Anatolian people an enjoyable, film-filled Ramadan.”
